* Convention (Event where people meet for a specific objective and conduct exchange based on that objective)
Along with information technology, the convention business, which incorporates international meetings and exhibitions, is an industry that will be extremely important in the 21st century. Mindful of this, we are doing our utmost to attract as many conventions to Kisarazu as possible.
Attracting conventions to Kisarazu
It is said that tourism is one of the key industries of the 21st century, and its impact on the economy has become even greater in recent years. As well as promoting international understanding, international conventions increase tourism and therefore have a significant knock-on effect on the local economy. The City of Kisarazu therefore conducts extensive promotional activities in Japan and overseas through organizations such as Japan National Tourist Organization and Chiba Convention Bureau and International Center. We are also striving to enhance the system to accept convention participants and attract even more international conferences and other events to the city.
International convention cities
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport accredits cities working to attract international conferences and promote tourism as international convention cities based on fulfillment of various conditions. Such conditions include having suitable venues for international conferences, accommodation facilities and tourist attractions in the vicinity. There are a total of 49 cities in Japan that have received approval as international convention cities. In Chiba Prefecture, Chiba and Narita have also received approval. Kisarazu became the 47th international convention city in Japan in July 1999.

JNTO is an independent administrative agency established in April 1964 as a result of the JNTO law and is run under the supervision of the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. It conducts a variety of activities connected with promoting tourism including attracting international conventions and providing assistance for holding events, promotional activities to boost the number of overseas tourists and support to increase international exchange.
There are convention bureaus in major cities throughout Japan established by local authorities and chambers of commerce as non-profit organizations to attract conventions to the locality and provide support for holding conferences. Chiba Convention Bureau and International Center, the capital for which was provided by Chiba Prefecture and Chiba City, fulfills this role for the City of Kisarazu.
KAC was opened in 1997 as the core facility of Kazusa Akademia Park Co., Ltd. Many international and academic meetings, seminars and other research events as well as concerts and other cultural events are held here amid a rich natural environment full of water and lush greenery. It also acts like a city, providing various services for the research institutes on site and for visitors. Many of the conventions in Kisarazu are held here at Kazusa Akademia Center.
